If it is turbocharged, then superchips are your best bet. It not, get a turbo!

turbo diesels are much easier to tune as you can "fool" the ecu and get more boost from the engine. normally aspirated diesels are all but impossible to tune. that's why companies like VW can offer 100, 130 and 150 bhp versions of their 1.9TDi engine, just with an ECU remap.

hmmm thinkin a nice wee engine conversion coming on lol wantin sumthing wiv atleast 110 bhp. also is it ok to decat the diesel?

it depends on the particulate filter that is fitted.

your best bet is to source a fairly recent Renault 1.9DCi engine with about 120bhp. The 1.5DCi from the current range will reach about 120hp at a push

^^ yea go for a dci, as then the whole dash etc has to come out just to change the loom.

The 19 had a 1.9 TD, if you can source one of those, just drop the engine staight in, and then bastardise the down pipe to fit the clio. the DCI lump is more hassle than its worth tbh.

You need to find if your car has a turbo from the agae I'd think not it will be the none turbo engine. To see if you do have a look down the back of the engine see if the exhaust manifold goes straight done or if there a turbo there.

Just sticking a turbo on your car is a waste of time since the CR is wrong you'd blow the head gasget quickly you need to use a turboed engine to start with which will have the lower CR.

Decat won't help power.

There are ways to 110hp depends hwo you want to go about it since your car is a Mk1 its even more oppen since wiring isn't as difficult.

Your options are
1.9 DTi engine froma Mk2 phase 1 CLio. Theyw ere 110 hp stock but you'd need to get the whole engine box etc from one to make it work plus its a bit of work.

Other diesel engine from Volvo etc as they fit. Old Volvos engines were often Renault.

1.5 dci engine is a lot of hastly the engine is higly computerised you cna push 110hp out of a 65hp model though with an intercooler and custom remap. The 80 will give 10hp or so more. The 100 limit is abotu 130hp with a remap but littel work has been done. To get loads more you need to chnage injecotrs which with a 1.5dci needs new injector codes.

if it were me I'd either forget it or go make the car into a bit of a project get a big diesel engine say a 2.2 liter old engine with a relevent gearbox and then get some new injectors flowed for it. Stick a bit turbo one and get it fitted.

No one "fools" the ECU. Remapping the fuel and ignition with an increase in turbo boost is what you do when you modify the ECU !

The different versions of VW engine (much like Renaults 65, 80 and 100) are not just different ECU maps, that would be very pointless as you could just buy the cheapest model in sport and just remap it to the highest model... They have uprated parts.

As Cliohuint said the engine are different the blocks are similar in the 130 and 150 but internal engine components (ie piston) are different as well as turbo intercooler etc.

The 100 tdi is the last generatin engine which hs a different block material for starters not much was copied across the crack spe was I think not sure though.

how long do you want it live?

You can get 300bhp from a turbo diesel from a 19 if you only want it to live a few hours. Maybe a few weeks if you don't uise it hard and can live wioth the smoke.

The astramax on migweb 3 years ago was great, NA lump 280bhp on the rollers after it just wheelspun, lasted an hour, lol
