Trying To Create A Video: Free Program?

I want to take clips from dvd's i have and make a short video accompanied by music.

What is the best free software to do this?

This program seems like it does a lot of useful stuff but not what i want to do.

I have a season of a tv program on 6 dvd's i want to take clips from these dvds and make a video made up of these clips then put music to it. This program doesnt seem to do that

Windows movie maker is easy to use.

Nero can also make DVD's from a compilation of small clips.
