tomtom's seting up speed cameras

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
hey,

I got a tom tom for crimbo but im wondering how you install the speed cameras - its a tom tom one and came with a disc, i installed the disk to my computer and it takes you to a shop where you can buy the speed camera update for a year,,,, but im just wondering do the spped cameras go on the tom tom as points of intrest ? i dont want to pay 30 quid if the speed cameras only come on while im connected to bluetooth.

any ideas ?? ive heard there is some where else, but i just want the spped cameras as pois and dont want to be on bluetooth as it would cost a bomb.

hope you understand what im talking about lol

You can go to www.tomtom.com and navigate to PLUS Services at the top and click speed cameras on the left and buy that way.

Alternatively, the way I do it is go to www.pocketgpsworld.com and purchase a rolling months subscription (£2 per month). Once your months up you have to pay £2 again if you want another month's subscription, so it's flexible. They update their database every few weeks. Good thing is, is that it's a communitity of people who spot cameras and upload them to site to share there locations.

Hope this helps matey.

It is a bit bud at first glance. On the left hand side of the page a few scrolls down look for 'Speed camera' click this and then you have to register with the site. Once registered you should be able to purchase a subscription through this link. Select your TomTom product and the database you want to download (there are about 3-4 choices) Tell me what they are and I'll tell u the one I use as I cant remember off the top of my barney.

Pretty straight forward pal, let me know how you get on.

Oh...once you download the database just hook up your TomTom to your PC, navigate to My Computer and open the associated drive for TomTom and drag and drag into the correct folder. (PocketGPSWorld explains it all, probably better than me lol).

Good luck!

Nope, no bluetooth required, no hidden charges :)

PocketGPSWorld is more up-to-date so even though it used to be free before and you have to pay now it is still the best one to get the camera database from.

right im propper pisssed off now lol, i cant get the speed cameras to display, the instructions are not straight forward !! lol

what i have don so far is followed these instructions:

Step 1. Download the POI file
Download the POI zip file. Save the file on your computer by selecting “save” when prompted. Save the file in a place where you can easily find it again for step 3 of the installation, e.g. on your Desktop or in My Documents. Unzip the contents. ive done this

Step 2. Connect your TomTom GO to your PC
Connect your TomTom GO to your PC using the USB data cable. The USB cable is supplied with your TomTom GO product. Ensure that TomTom GO is powered using the AC adapter.

Your TomTom GO is now visible in "My Computer" as a "Removable Disk". done this

Step 3. Copy the POI files from your PC
Go to the directory on the local hard drive of your PC where you stored or downloaded the unzipped POI database files (.OV2 and optionally .BMP files)
Select and copy the POI database files.
You must copy the (.OV2 and .BMP) files - do NOT copy the folders. where you copy them to ???? !!!

Step 4. Copy the POI files to your TomTom GO
Go to "My Computer” on your PC;
Go to "Removable Disk";
Then go to the map directory, for example the folder "Great_Britain-Map"; and "paste" the POI files into this folder.

NB If you have a TomTom Go 700, with all of the maps of Western Europe in one place, then you use the "Western_Europe-Map" folder.

The POI files are now successfully copied to this folder. You are ready to use your new POIs on your TomTom GO.

can anyoine who has doen this write a set of instructions that are easy to follow ?? mine is a tomtom one

Right, copy and paste the .OV2 and .BMP files to your "Great_Britain-Map" folder. That's it!

Then all you need to do is enable the POI's in the TomTom product itself, don't worry about that bit for now. Just get the two files copied to the folder. If it asks to overwrite files just say 'Yes'

thanks for that mate, the trouble was i downloaded the files and they came up as zip files, but the pois came up as just one file,, was a bit stumped till i realised that this too was a big zip file just displayed as an autocad file on my comp - all unziped and working now :)

cheers mate

i'm off to hunt for different voices haha
