Think my clutch has disintegrated....

...driving into my parents housing estate yesterday - changed down and totally lost drive! Theres still tension in the cable but i cant get any gears - even just pushing the gear lever into position with the engine off. Its only been 5k since it went in as well....

Does this sound about right?



Err...if you can think of any suitable replacement cars (similar performance etc) for me place them here as my car is now on borrowed time..... (Its a 1.8 16v btw)

Saxo VTS or Pug 106 GTi or go for something classy like a Clio Williams - for your replacement car Dougal!!! lol lol

They are all 0-60 around the 7.7 mark...

Heh - just had to suffer the embarrasment of being towed the 30 odd miles to the garage by my sisters 172 as well!

Ive really had enough of it now....its a shame because i really enjoy the car but its been one thing after another since i got it. Apparently the clutch is still under warranty but with all the money ive lost its gonna have to go before i go bankrupt. Someone will get a bargain i think....

As for the next car, ive already been round a few garages and its gonna be something quicker! Got my eyes on a iceberg silver mk1 172, xsara vts or something turbocharged.....rover maybe....

either the clutch plate has gone or the diff centre circlip has come out.remove the n/s driveshaft to check the circlip.does your speedo still go up even though theres no drive.

Speedo was reading 10mph when i was being towed and we were defo going faster. This would have been about the speed i was going when i lost drive......

Ive heard this before on the forum, someone else had theirs in for about 5k and it went on them. Mines approx 2000 miles old but if it goes after 5k it would be the last straw! Totalled up my bills so far and it wasnt pretty, I could have bought the car twice over!

Mine went last night, one minute Im excellerating in second the next it wont go in to 3rd. Or any other gear come to think of it.

It only goes in gear when the engines not running.

mine went on sat night !! thev same happened to me us you U33..

mine ainmt new, i duno how long its been on there, the car had just done 90k aswell !!

now it dont move !!
