that "extra" bit of travel on the Accel pedal

... I really don't understand why renault did this - its like the kick down button behind the accelerator on an automatic (except that actually does something!!!).... Seriously, my 182 doesnt accelerate any harder with the pedal mashed flat to the floor (past the extra spring loaded bit) then it does when i depress it upto where the "extra" bit begins. Can anyone explain why its there and what its purpose is ? ? ?

Its to automatically over ride the speed limiter in an emergency.

It's the same on all cars, once you reach a certain position on the pedal the maximum acceleration is found way before the pedal reaches the floor if that makes any sense.
