Dude the mk1 1.2 has the torsion bar. You have to make sure the thing is completely lubbed up-keep doing it for a week or so. You sould be able to get the tool from your local motor factor. Its like a long thredded shaft with two nuts. If you get the settings wrong youll have lots of problems. Its not worth the risk, itll only cost you £70 to get it done a garage then you have someone to blame if it goes wrong! Hope this helps.

Its piss easy to do the torsion bar, sdon'rt listen to these non believers

Did it on my 1.,2 for the first time and it took me about 30 mins, fronts took me an hour.

If you get it wrong, its a simple case of pulling it out and adjusting it more in the right direction.

if you are local to the midlands i'll lower the whole car for £50 for you, or the torsion bar for £20 if you want.

Did a torsion bar alone the other day, took me 20 mins.

You will find alot of garages won't touch torsion bars as ttehy dont' know what they are doing wiht them.

There is a giude floating around somewhere if you do a search, otherswise i ahve a haynes max power modding giude that details it, for sale for a tenner + P&P

Also you dont' need the special tool, easier to do it using an M10 threaded bar, M10 nut and washer and 30mm 1/2" drive socket......not to mention cheaper

i bin tld it is pretty easy to do, does any1 actually no how to do it.

Jack car up and stick on stands

Support the rear trailing arm wiht the jack, just so it takes the weight, but doesn't move.

Oull out torsion bar.

Raise the rear trailing arm the desired amount, measure from the hub to bottem of arch before and after to get the right distance.

Push torsion bar back in, might need to rotate it a bit to get it to slot in fully (grease this up before you push it back in, just makes re adjusting it easier.

Remove jack, and repeat for other side.

Drop car down and check, if necessary repeat above til you ahve a height you are happy wiht, bounce ont eh boot a couple of times to settle the suspension first.

Oh and soak the ends of the torsion bar wiht WD-40 or Plus gas a few days before, just makes it come out easier
