Steering wheel

I am trying to put a new steering wheel in my car but i cant get the old one off! I have removed the nut but the wheel is stuck to the spline shaft and it wont move at all. Any advice would be appreciated.

It might help if you said what car you drive? Normally a good tug should do it though. I think there is normally a taper which is the tricky part to break
