Steering Angle Sensor - will it cause problems?

  Clio 182
I've just fitted my new OMP wheel and boss to my car this evening. Me and my mate who I do a lot of mechanic work with aren't ones for instructions, we just have a go, what's the worst that could happen ........ Apparently in this case it's make the ESP system moan at us with its warning light on the dash, oops lol.

Anyway after reading around on here I found that we had managed to disconnect the Steering Angle Sensor. We have connected it back up to make the light go out but I don't think we have got it working correctly(i would guess that its supposed to turn with the wheel by definition and it doesnt do that anymore because we havent got the parts in correctly with the new wheel). My question is do I really need it on my car? It is only used for track and the ESP is usually turned off anyway. Or could it cause any other problems that may affect the way the car drives?

Thanks in advance.
