Am looking to get a nice sounding ICE install in my newly arriving 172, have in the past had a good relationship with Rockford Fosgate amps...so will probably continue with that and some Alpine speakers, but is it worth uprating the standard head unit?...will you actually hear any difference?...would like the system to be quite stealth so as not to attract teeves you see?

Am looking to get a nice sounding ICE install in my newly arriving 172, have in the past had a good relationship with Rockford Fosgate amps...so will probably continue with that and some Alpine speakers, but is it worth uprating the standard head unit?...will you actually hear any difference?...would like the system to be quite stealth so as not to attract teeves you see?
my factory standard head unit doesnt seem to like playing recordable cds too well.
Another factor to consider is that the standard head unit has no pre outs meaning youl have to use a LOC which distorts the signal, esp at higher volumes
the factory head unit is PANTS
Change it the day you get the car no matter how you try and set the unit up it really sounds cheap and nasty.
OK...if it is that crap I will consider changing it...will the remotes on the wheel still control say a Kenwood or Alpine head unit?
