rev limit

Hi,

one for the engine builders out there.
what determines the revlimit of the 182 engine?

is it the top end? (valvesprings, cam design)
or the bottom end (conrods, crank)

i assume you mean the maximum "safe" rev limit on a standard engine??

its a combination of everything you mention in your first post! they can take 8k rpm on a stock engine, but it won't last, 7800rpm is pushing it in terms of reliability, if you want to rev it that high fit ARP rod bolts and use GOOD oil (5W50 is what i'd suggest, help keep the pressure up)

Mine hit 7,800 or many occasion. Although it did sound like it was about to fall apart when it got there

although if the ARP studs make such a difference, would this make a good upgrade to do when the sump is off?
Just for peace of mind?

crank (balanced), conrods & pistons.

That would give you a few hundred more revs to play with, I think? (But I'm probably wrong)

standard rods are actually ok, its the rod bolts that cause issue

would replacing the bolts be as easy as i think?
Ie removing the sump and start replacing them one by one....or am i being a total idiot?
