replacing shocks

im replacing both front shocks tomorrow, and fitting new springs at the same time. its the first time ive attempted it myself.

the only thing that worries me is what to do with the hub after taking the shock out... surely it will just be left hanging, or should i support it with something?

any other tips?

Put some bricks under it mate or zip tie it up

edit-watch you don't loose gear oil, & don't panic if your n/s driveshaft pops out just turn it till it goes back in.

Are you getting the springs already set up around the shock or fitting them yourself? You'll need spring clamps and it can be tricky/dangerous

Don't take the top nut off without clamps or it goes bang

yeah i have spring compressors...

thats my concern that the drive shafts will pop out... how can i prevent this?

i had them both off a few weeks back, so shouldnt be a problem

If you can as soon as you get the shock out the way move it to the side and hold it in with one hand, and put a brick/axle stand under it.

Like you said, if the hub drops a fair bit the shaft will pop out - keep the hub up

Dont need spring compressors, when I pull the strut out i usually use a couple of long cable ties to hold the hub up/in so it doesnt pull the driveshaft out.
