Ok, gather round one and all...

My car has been with Renault now for 1 week. My issue? Failing to start first go and resetting of trip information on the 2nd attempt at starting the car.

Battery ? - My battery is fine. The car hasn't been driven for a week, just start tested each morning. The battery is holding 100%... so it is not the battery.. in this case.

There is an issue where the fuel pump fails to hold pressure between the pump and the fuel rail. This was an issue on my car. They have replaced the pump 3 times and the 3rd pump is now holding pressure. Renault believe that this will solve a portion of the cars 'hard start' issue...

In my case, the hard start is still there... (and there are others out there in this boat too)

Renault (France) was contacted and discussions made. France (and now Renault Aust.) are aware of the hard start issue. Their theory revolves around 2 areas :
* Immoboliser
* ECU management

Immoboliser
--------------
They believe there is a fault where the immoboliser isn't reconising the key and thus failing to start. They believe the problem enamates from the ECU, and how the ECU works.

I forwarded on the post from a guy on this list in Adeliade about the decoder ring... Renault Technical are looking into this.

ECU
----
The ECU in our renaults goes into shutdown mode when left alone for a period of time. WHy? I suggest to save battery... The ECU effectively is swtiched off. after what period? 5-6 10 hours?...

When the button is pressed and the doors are open. Renault believe the car isn't coming out of it's sleep mode. Thus when being started, (my comment : the ECU probably isn't firing the injectors, or the sparkies..) the ECU isn't ready.

Renault's Response?
----------------------
Do no more work on the car. Fix the fuel pump and stop there. Renault will be in contact when a complete resolution to the issue is found.

Short Term Solution?
-----------------------
Get into the car and turn to the ON position. Wait for the christmas tree lights to go out (this is part of the start test). return the key to the off position.

Then back to the on position, wait 2 seconds and start.

Renault suggest this will ALWAYS start the car....

Justin

p.s For those of you who are members of european clio sites... please scour their information on this issue and forward me the links. I have a dialogue going with Renault and as such they are taking the information I've provided seriously (probably because I've supplied video footage of the error and know I'm not trying to dick them around)... So while I am reluctant to be a channel, I am aware there are a few of use that want this solved.

just wondering if you/anyone else heard of this ignition issue on scenic - hard starting i came across on www.aussiefrogs.com renault forum... any relevance?
