problem with slave harddrive

Help dudes, just turned on my computer and the slave hdd has gone, it doesnt show up in 'my computer' or under 'devicer manager' it doesnt even show up as detected when i rebooted.

Its all connected up properly i checked and it has just dissapeared, half my system is on that, 'my documents' and most of the programs so i cant run anything, only have xp running from the main hdd.

Anyone know a fix, ive restarted it and tried looking for new hardware which didnt work, its only 4 months old, its a wd 400gig internal sata drive.

Have you checked that the hard drive is powering correctly?

ouch.

Make sure its cabled up right, check in the BIOS to see if that sees it, try partition magic to see whether that sees it. Try it in another PC if you have one.

This is why I have mine in raid array.

also try running it off a different ide channel, boot hard drive on ide1 and the slave on ide2

Hi, seems to be working now, i checked in the bios and it wasnt being detected, i then disconnected the drive and reconnected it and it seems to have worked, maybe the cables were loose or getting too hot as the drive is sitting so that the power cable rubs on the case cover when its on, the sata cable is fine as it has an angled end but the power one is a normal end that sticks out, ill try getting some new power cables and hopefully it sorts the prob.

gonna back up my stuff now, while its working!

I get this at work on a machine that I've got 3 slave drives in, will tend to only show 2 of them but rebooting usually doesn't the trick in my case.

problem seems ok for the time being, but just booted up and my external drive connected via firwire just didnt show up was running with power but wasnt there, turned the drive off and back on and its fine, think i may have a problem with windows and not the drives.
