Phase I 172 throttle body options

  Ph1 Clio 172 Cup AU
Hi all, recent new owner of a Phase I Clio 172 "Cup" (Australian spec cup). Trying to get some modern information after sifting through the years of old threads.

After getting the car, I was made aware that is has some minor issues with the throttle body. I drove it 750km back home and noticed the initial throttle feel was a bit stiff, and it wasn't the smoothest to take off from a standstill. The revs would also hang around 1500-2000 rpm in traffic if you're not blipping the throttle on downchanges.

Previously owning a shitbox BMW E36 with an M44, I thought it was a dirty throttle body that needed cleaning/lubing and took it off to inspect. However, it was essentially dead clean, and after speaking to the previous owner, I have learnt that this is basically something that all Phase I 172s will suffer :ROFLMAO:

After inspecting the throttle body closer, it appears there's play in the butterfly, causing it to rub on one side of the throttle body. If I push the throttle spring in, it's smooth as, but when it comes back out, you hear it squeak against the housing.

What are my options here? I was thinking if I could jerry rig something to put a small amount of tension on the cable spring, this would help it sit correctly. I've heard some people talking about adjusting the clip for the spring, but I am extremely hesistant to mess around with it when it's near impossible to find a used replacement here in Australia.

Other options - curious to see if anyone has any experience with these

1) Used throttle body from the UK - could get this rebuilt. Save me if one gets broken
2) Larger remanufactored 64mm throttle bodies like this one
3) Completely new fAnCy throttle bottle from France (this is pretty exxy though) https://www.optimiz-access.fr/en/op...rs-phase-1-clio-2-group-n-clio-2-x65-cup.html
4) Leave it until it gets worse - it's honestly not that bad, but also the whole point of having a cable throttle car is a better feeling throttle pedal.

Any help or modern ways of fixing this would be appreciated!

Both of my Ph1’s suffered with a sticky throttle body. Cleaned and also changed the throttle cable seemed to help with the first one. But the second one was having none of it. Only way I fixed it was to fit ITBs
