PETERB’ORO Smiths Renault - all this bad

When to Smiths the other day, had to beg a test drive of a 172 in met red.

The guy wouldnt move on the 9.9% APR, hence getting loan from Co-op (6.3% APR).

Offered me £500 for my car, not great but not bad either. Practically had to buy the car to get the test drive.

Asked what would happen if I walked in with the required cash without part/ex - again wouldnt move on the 11K price tag.

Asked about fixing the small dent in bonnet, said if it could be fixed it would be, asked about sorting out small chips and scratches - he said they would be done but only touch ups - so when they rust I get no warranty on those bits then?

Loved the car but imagine how awkward they would be if something went wrong with it.

On a further note about a year ago asked a sales man @ Smiths why I should buy a car from him and not an import, he went on about the spec issues (are there any?), he explained that I wouldnt get a good service from them if it went wrong, ie no courtsesy car, would make sure the car came last service/fixing list for that day, if it where done that day of course!!

Are these the worst dealers ever?

Any other baduns?

Thanks for your time in reading this

Forgot to mention, he reckoned after I shopped about it wouldnt be that the difference in APR because of the admin fees.

Liar.

Co-op - no admin fee, no early repayment clauses.

I assume this is "pre-owned" (how old ?)

If it is, 11K is a lot since you can get them new for about 12K through places like Motorpoint, newcardiscount.com, motorprovider etc.

If its new than it sounds a bargin!

The only advantage of getting a 2nd hand one from a main-dealer to my mind is the after-sales support, you are always going to be paying a premium for that though.

fao oliver reed, if you are new to the 172 scene, the read on, the cars from the brokers, are full uk spec, 3 year warrenty, exactly the same except the cat 1 alarm whicj renault uk fits when the cars are brought into the country,(this does not effect insurance in any way), the dealers seem ok do ing warrenty work for cars they have not sold...so the maindifference is price, and the waiting time unless you drop on and order one just before a shipment is due, as an example, when i order my 53 sport for 11850 from motorprovider, reg vardys at doncaster had a scruffy 02 plate 172 with 20k on the clock for 11999, the broker cars are also not imports if they are not registered till they get into the uk, anyone tells you differently is lieing, a cat 1 alarm can be fitted for about £280, - you do the maths!!
