noise help!!

Every time i change from 1st to 2nd i get a noise like metal hitting metal, it happens when i change from 4th or 3rd aswell in to 2nd, ive had a couple of blokes look at it they say its the gear stick hitting the heat shield, they say its just a annoying noise and there aint a lot i can do about it, there must be something can any of you guys help?? it a clio16v n reg

Whereabouts is the noise coming from? (not that Ill have much of a clue, but it may help others diagnose the problem!)

Possible loose gear linkages?

Ultimately theres usually a lot of funny noises in a clio!

maybe gear linkage is catching the exhaust or heatsheilds.maybe the exhaust is catching on the underside of the car somewhere.jack it up and have a look.check the tie bar mount as well while your there.
