MOT Numbering Deciphering

Could anyone give me specific information regarding the numbering on an MOT refusal sheet, as follows..

[8.3.1e] and
[7.1.1a]

Those numbers relate to the relevant section of the MOT inspection manual.

8.3.1e - e. a Windscreen sticker or other
obstruction encroaching more than 40mm

7.1.1a - a. A part of the (exhaust)system missing or excessively deteriorated

First, its a stainless system and he wouldnt tell me where abouts, just said its on the sheet.

Second, how can this car fail because it has a magic tree hanging off the rear view mirror, when no other car i have put through has, only stickers on the front screen are the tax and breakdown cover one, so assumed 'other'

aah screen wiper sweep (basically) cannot be obstructed by anything incl. air fresheners & furry dice!
ask him to show you where the exhaust is rotton if you can't find it. if he won't, tell him he's a dick and you'll speak to VOSA
