MK1 172 speedo- Not working

The speedo in my MK1 172 has decided to stop working and stays on 0. Occasionally it springs back to life but not usually for long. Could this be a dodgy connection or something more serious? Do you think it is a renault job?

does the rev counter work? if so will be the nearside abs sensor thats duff/disconnected as the speedo works off this

If it is the abs sensor how easy is that to replace. Can I do it myself or will renault have to do it?

its easy to do all you do is take your hub off then drill the old one out , then i used a dremel with grind inside the hole made it a little bigger and the new one fitted in no probs they are £££ from renault though about £150 each

You can do the ABS sensor youselt you just have to make sure the diustances are right. Its worth checking there correct though that might be the problem. New sensors are £50 from Renault. Some people have had the cables wearing through so that might be the problem.
