Shhh
I have Microsoft Office on CD (Original) and required the cd key as i dont have it with me. Downloaded a few keygens, txt files to try a few for the gf's laptop. Extracted a few, then it popped up that i have a virus. Selected AVG to delete the file, and it did so no issues here.
Virus checked the files i was about to open, and they were clean. Looked like a normal setup file, named as setup so assumed it was ok. File opened, then sort of 20-30secs later it popped up that it had an error. Things then began to fail so pulled the plug on the system. Battery off, then power lead out. Turned it back on to see what was going on, then it came up with a unable to locate ntoskrnl.exe in the c:\windows\system32. I managed to copy this from a Win XP Pro CD into the file and it boots up to the login screen. Have then the option to login as Admin, or as Me. Both accounts have the same priviledges. Click ok to login, and login as expected the get bombarded with the same error as when the system began to fail. Then once clicked through 5-6 boxed it just sits on the background screen with the cursor in the middle of the screen. HD light flashes like its busy, caps lock works etc so its still alive. No Control-Alt-Delete option, nor Control-Alt-Escape option.
Want to get the pictures off the laptop, it has a CDRW, have the option to use a USB drive to tranfer the 200 pics or so, not bothered about files etc as have them on the recovery cd, or can be downloaded. Just unsure on what to do now.
Can try the safe mode option, tho want me laptop back. Cant get a Acer TravelMate Recovery CD until i get home at the weekend. Have XP here, tho unsure if it will overwrite the whole lot. Know i could load a basic XP system on the laptop, tho id lose all functionality of the cdrw.
Any ideas.?
