just got chased :s

this wasnt a race- so ddnt post it up in race thing.
just dropped my mates off from pool club at half ten, on my way back. all of a sudden i see a blinding light in my rear view-some punto is up my arse with his fogs and full beam - rearly close, i try to pull away- for some reason the last two days the beast hasnt been as responsive as usual in accelerating with the foot down- than all of a sudden i hear a sort of wvhooof noise- not a bang or a thud and see a cloud of wot looked lke dust fly out of my exhaust and into the punto behind me- if he hadnt been so close than it prob wudnt have effected him. we get to a set of traffic lights- next thing i no i see him gettin out his car to examine any damage- then another car pulls up next to him- a crappy old escort/ or nova in bad shape-another of his mates,both run over to the punto and look at the bnnet. doesnt seem to be any damage as both got in their car and ddnt make a move towards my car- so lights turn greeen and i dont really want to hang around so put my foot down- this time the car pulls away like it never has done before in its life and flies off. they start to chase me, but the clio pulls away whenever they start to get close..
i eventually lose them and get to the safety of a group of large mates in the pub.
after the relief of wotver came out of my exhaust the cars acceleration has never been so quick- im talkin 0-60 in 10 secs at the most which is pretty quick for the rt!

wot the hell could it have been?????
had a look at the exhaust- seems to be fine and nothing missin- will have closer look in the mornin.

feel a lot better now i got that out of my system- and glad the clio decided to be so responsive at the rite time1

Cabon deposits? Dunno... Im no expert but thats what Id guess. An engine needs to be revved on occasion to clear out all the muck - especially if u have a cat...

Dont listen to me tho - I tend to talk out my @rse a lot - Ben R know his sh*t. . He might shed some light. Glad u found refuge.

believe me- the car does get revved!
this is the second time ive been chased when ive been on my own. its pretty scary, especially when theres a fair few of them!!!
tbh i think it serves him right- maybe next time he wont get so close to a car in front of him that isnt racing!!!!

Sounds like the catalytic converter material! Would also explain why your car now feels quicker.....youve just got a free decat!

i once got chanced on mi motor bike if it wernt a bike i wud of been killed i reckon,they were tryin to ram mi there were loadsa of them in a cavalier it was fukin rapid cudnt chase it off i had to end up going down a ginnel(sniket/backstreet) wat ever the sayin is where u live, well sh*t mi pants didnt think i wa gettin away its so scary wen ur by ur self and no ur helpless wi no1 round to hear u

hmmm. so it cud be the cat convertor? call me stupid but im not exactly sure wot it does- is thre a way to check that it ws that?

lol-yea it was a bit jamesbond esque- was tempted to use the oil on the road trick (just shake the car a few times to initiate a leak!) or release tacks to blow hhis tyres (open the window and throw out noticeboard tacks-never leave home without them!) im just glad it ddnt come to that becoz i wud have hated to have caused damage to those two wonderful (and slower than mine) cars..hehe

Definitely sounds like cat materials. No real way of checking short of taking it to a MOT centre, and getting them to test emissions, or get the cat taken off, and seeing if its visably decaying.

Cats do tend to go sometimes, you may find the cat materials basically came away inside the cat, and initially blocked the exhaust flow, hence why it didnt feel right, then you developed enough back pressure to blow the stuff clear when you accelerated hard, and so the car can now get rid of the exhaust gasses properly.

Get it to a garage, theyll soon be able to tell you.

The cat went on my Williams and ended up checking small bits of silvery white honeycomb structure out of the back. When I took the cat off, there was a lump of honeycomb about the size of a potato left which would have probably back fired out of the back if Id left it any longer.

Buy a new cat and keep the old one as a decat pipe to use between MOTs.

That happened to my L-reg R5! Me and my mates thought it was a dead bird at first cos it was feather kind of stuff blocking the entire pipe - car went like a rocket once we got it out....

i was chased last night by a pug 206 home from killie, prick started flashing his lights full beam at me on and off, right up behind me, so i stopped car got out and they sat in the pug checked the back of the car to make sure my lights were okay, stared them out then drove off and they started it again, so was with girlfriend and she was starting to worry what was going on, so managed to get away from them, pulled into to Dundonald, they flew by so out and back on to the road and after them, followed them home to a street in a part of my own town, they pulled up driveway so jumped out car and asked the guy whats your problem , he starting saying dont know what you mean mate, so guys dad came out and started mouthing off threatening to call the 5o, so left it with the offer that if his son ever tried it again i would be round to brick his windows in
