High flow cats, induction setup, help!

  RenaultSport clio 182 mk2
This is my first post on cliosport.net. I've been a little cautious as to posting because the UK is clio tuning heaven and I don't want to get laughed off the forums. lol:cool:

I'm from Australia, in Melbourne and member of www.ozrenaultsport.com check it out.

Anyway, my question is about high flow cats. I would get a de-cat but they are illegal in Aus and it's 10,000AUD fine if you're caught with one - that's about, what 4000 pounds maybe a bit more?

So what about high flow cats? Surely there are still significant gains to be had with these? How are they for noise over the stock exhaust? I drive a black 182 (non-cup).

I installed a K&N Apollo and really love the noise. I've left the filter open with the stock cold air feed lurking nearby, would you recommend a different setup? I figured that a ram pipe with tons of bends would pretty much be useless.

Cheers.

In my humble opinion a sports cat is not worth it unless you are upgrading the whole system (i.e. manifold back) as on it's own we're talking measly power gains. I believe k-tec racing do an upgrade which is the 182 manifold with a Janspeed sports cat.

Here you go:

ITG Maxogen do a good (if expensive) kit for the 172. You always want a closed system really...

the 182 cat is more free flowing than the 172 cat, so I'm not sure you'd gain much from getting a high-flow cat.
Induction kit really needs to be enclosed, especially if your in oz. Scorchio!

I didn't think it was the cat that was better on the 182....thought it was the 4-2-1 manifold design?

I installed a sports cat on my 172 and it's definately worth it along with the exhaust...makes the car feel more drivable.
