Help needed ASAP, fitting 172 sports cat.

I am in the process of fitting my Janspeed sports cat to my 172 but the manifold studs that hold the cat to the manifold do not appear to want to come out. I have been turning them for what seems like forever but nothing seems to be happening.
Am I doing something wrong or do they just have a really long thread?

IIRC you have to push them back toward the manifold and slide out sideways. I think they're on a swivel type ball joint assy.

Here's a little piccy of how it's bolted

Thanks mate. I now have one nut off but the other is just hanging. I can't believe there are no captive nuts on the manifold. What sort of forward thinking were Renault using when the decided to put nuts and bolts in the most inaccessible places. The car really is the worst I have ever worked on.
And I am now blind in my left eye due to a piece of rust dropping in my face.

Spot on mate. Renault Always trying new silly things in the tightest spaces possible.

It's a pain in the arse. Such a small space to work in and nearly impossible to get your hands in/around/behind.

I have my girl friends dad to help me out but what i need to know is do i need any gaskets/parts to fit the sports cat or is it just take off the old cat and put the new 1 on?

no gaskets needed, just buy a tube of exhaust paste to run over the joints before assembly

tis a b**ch to do though

I'm praying it passes my MOT with a de-cat as my 172 Mk1 is such a pain in the ass to take off and put back on. I'll belt it around for an hour before I take the car in for it's MOT.
