Exhaust question

Was driving along at a steady speed and all of a sudden I heard a loud snap come from the underside of my car then about 10 seconds later my exhaust note became louder.

Pulled over and had a look under the car and I noticed one of the bolts holding the centre section to the cat and completely snapped and was missing. Also noticed all the offside of my car was covered in this green rubbery adhesive, similar to that NoNails panel adhesive you can buy but I think that could have come from a different incident.

My question is, what could have caused the bolt to snap? I know it could have just been a poorly manufactured bolt but it's only a month old and it came from Pro-Speed.
