exhaust problems. HELP!!!

ok i put my RT in 4 an MOT and it failed on a few things.

so i sorted all the other problems out, apart from the exhaust emmisions were to high. i dont have a de-cat or anything. the guy said i shouldnt have used firegum b4 the cat. so i re-sealed all the joints in the exhaust with silicon free instant gasket.

guy said it could be the lamder sensor. =£70 odd quid! (bt he aint sure)

so ive done all them seals again. put engine cleaner stuff in the fuel and it failed again, and i put back on the standard air box 2! (still failed)

ive got a 3" backbox on bt that shouldnt matter. how can i lower emmisions further?? any help at all would be ace!!

so could be sensor or cat. HELP MA!!!!!

cheers, Milne

might be lamda. But try this, take it for a good drive so that its fully warmed up and give it some stick i.e to the redline. this might help clear it out a bit.

Whats the engine milage? If its a carbd car (cant remember if the RTs are SPI) couldnt you adjust it to run slightly lean (ie less unburnt fuel)?

Failing that give the mechanic a bung....

Cant remember - haynes manual should have something about adjusting the mixture.

I will say that i dont know know if this will actually work.....where are you getting it MOTd - think im up beside you??

its ugie motors in strichan (near mintlaw) < near fraserburgh.

im getting a lamder sensor from overton 2moro. only thing is ull never know if that is is buggerd or no.

Just wondering if theyre trying it on or not!

My dad got took my mums metro to the Bayview in Peterhead for an MOT - the guy said it failed on emmisions, brakes and would need serious welding to get it through - a cost of near £300 quid. He then offered my dad 50quid for it so "one of the youngs lads could work on it"! Needless to say my dad told him where to go, went home and fiddled with the carb and MOTd it at Campbells garage in Peterhead where it passed. Theres some bloody chancers going about!!

Might be worth taking it somewhere and telling them to adjust the mixture if you cant be arsed then getting them to MOT it if youre not too confident in that garage....

lol ur going to laugh but its my girlfreinds dad whos MOTn it lol.

yes the boy whos "corupting his daughter" lol.

na bt he wouldna be dogey at al.

ill have a go fidaling with the carb!!

is there anyway 2 tell if ur cat is done? prob nae eh?

dunno - wouldnt think it would be if its only on 46k - my valver one was on what appeared to be its original one when i removed it at 128k....could be wrong....

Ive got a blue valver but only my folks stay in peterhead - i stay in aberdeen. Dont really go in for all that bluetooncruise.com/aberdeenbeach.com shenanigans...;).

if its got a oxygen sensor then its single point injection.a leaking exhaust would create excessive lamda.if its failed on co etc then its most likely the oxygen sensor but you could have a look at the cat to check it.have a look at the cat centre to make sure all the honeycomb material is there.unfortunatly there are no diag checks which can be carried out on the sensor itself so if you think its faulty you would have to change it and take it for a retest.

ok so i changed the oil filter, all spark plugs, changed the oil, put engine cleaner stuff in the fuel, got a new lamder sensor, re-did all my exhaust joints with silicone free instant gasket - and it finaly passed

after 4 gos tho!!!!!!!

its cool tho cuz only gt charged for one!

thaks 4 yer help ppl.
