right i think the cat has collapsed inside and after just shellin out for cam belt and set of brakes im skint ....so i plan to cut the bottom out of the cat take all the gubbins out and weld a plate back over the hole....will this be ok......also i want a bit more noise and money issues and the fact i dont want a massive pipe hanging from the arse end if i done the same with the back box as the cat would it just sound s**t and would it effect the performance in a bad way?????

personally, wouldn't attempt what you're thinking with the back box

what's wrong with the cat? second hand ones seem to pop up on here for round-about the £50 mark - would go for something like that if yours is defo shot. new fitting kit would be extra though

suppose you could have a go at your cat as described although it would probably be easier just to remove the box and weld pipe in, giving you a decat (with any/all of the hassles they entail); would ideally want a new fitting kit when putting that back on as well

You may get more replies if you make you post appealing. Having no full stops and words that dont fit in makes it hard to read and digest.

Other than that I cant help mate. Perhaps sell some parts? Such as old brakes as spares for some money?

secondhand cats can be found on here for around £40, have a look in the for sale section

are you sure its the cat? would imagine you could mess with the flow, but i'm just speculating, could be wrong

If your thinkin of opening the cat up dont fella, easier and better just removing it, close it on a vice, and use a large long chissel, ans smashed the inside, thats what iv done as i saw foxy done it, so did it and 20min later all clean inside :) just wear a mask as its toxic.

Yep :)

had a de-cat before, and it feels abit responsive on acceleration. so ye just smashed the faker and youl be ok :)

btw the Emmision sign does come up on dash tho.. but easy to sort out :)

na, buy the code error reader from K-tec or ebay, then remove the code. seen is somewhere on here, mine is still on tho, as when MOT come il just swap and put a Cat back on then remove :)

right the mechanic has just bought the car back...the cat is fine..so why oh why does it feel restricted andwhy wont she go over 120?

it's probably running out of puff due to the gearing. does it pull to the limiter in lower gears? i'd not worry if it does

sorry, do you mean that it won't pull to the limiter, or that you've not attempted it?

can see you've another thread and have some replies in that; how about the cam timing? has the belt been changed recently and could that be related?

a rolling road run would show up a problem if it's serious, or you could try another car to see if there's much difference

it wont go to the limiter mate, the cam belt was done last week but it was like it before that was done....what sort of price am i looking at for just a rolling road run?

something's definitely off if it won't make the limiter (no need to dyno to confirm that). whereabouts are you? probably wisest to take it to a local specialist for some help
