Engine light on - O2 Sensor at Fault, Is it ok to drive ?

I was out in car today and the engine light came on, car still drove the same as always has so i kept going to where i was intending (5miles away) and then called the AA for a free diagnostics test :)

It turned out to be the O2 sensor on the cat and i was told not to drive it :(

So my question is what can i damage if i run car with the engine light on due to this sensor going off on one?

Would it be safe enough ?

Drove mine for ages with it on. It does feel a bit rough but nothing dangerous imo as long as the revs aren't sticking?

Probably why he said that is that it comes up as a red error (major) on Clip, where, iirc, they're not meant to let you out the garage without clearing the fault.

  A shiny black one.
In my case it was the Non Cat sensor that went, other than the light it was the same as normal!
