Does this sound right? (Warrenty Query)

Hey, this is the deal.

I had to buy 2 new keys last year in October and get them coded to my car due to immobiliser problems. Both of these new keys broke and whilst they would still start the car they wouldnt open it with the remote central locking. So back to Renault and 2 new keys again, this tim eunder warrenty as its under 12 months since I had them replaced.

Get that done, check it, its all good so I ask for my reciept to prove the work has been done. The lady says that I cant have one as its warrenty work, so I ask how I am I meant to prove when these keys were replaced incase they break in the next 12 months? SO she replys that I dont need to as I no longer have a warrenty with them as its now owned by Renault :S

So basically if my keys break in the next 12 months I'll have to shell out another £180 which Im not chuffed about!

Is this right or are they talking BS?

Cheers
John

^^^^ Thats a bit strange not getting some sort of proof they were replaced . You will get 12 months warranty on the new keys , but if they fail say in 11 months time and they replace them again , your only covered on the original warranty so you will only have 1 month remaining even though the keys are newer .

So Im only covered till October then? When I bought the last set?

Yeah i would guess so . Better to ask them just to confirm , but i'm 99% sure your cover will only last for 12 months however many replacement keys you have . Sounds a bit crap i know but thats how it is in the UK for all replacement goods not just keys .

You dont get another 12 months each time they replace something :(

That sucks ass!!! But yeah tahts what they said but I know better than to believer everything Reno say. I was already pissed off cos I heard someone with bass pounding out the workshop and mine was the only non family car there (and has a sub) but couldnt prove anything!

Cheers for the help Billy

I have heard of this before, it sounds as if Renault are saying we have carried out our obligation to replace the 2 keys you paid for under warranty, and that because you did not pay anything again for the second set of keys there is no warranty on them, pretty s**t if you ask me.

What's the point of the warranty then?, might be an idea to get on to trading standards as there could be an inherent fault with the keys.

^^^^ If you check out ebay , some new unprogrammed key fobs pop up from time to time, you would need to get them coded to your car but it would still be cheaper than buying from Renault .Then you would just have to have your old blade fitted to the new fob .

Yeah was gonna try that last time but its making sure they have never been coded and even then there was some confusion as to weather they would work for a car they ahdnt been ordered for. Ah well, anyone want to buy a clio before October?!
