Digital SLR Camera's - which one?

I'm looking at buying a bit more of a professional type camera to prefect my skills, i've mastered the art of my tiny snap shot canon jobbie, so its time to raise my game! lol

Not after anything too high spec, but a dedicated SLR would be nice.

They are pretty good but you may find yourself limited by lens choice a bit, the big two (Canon and Nikon) make life very easy as you get fantastic own-brand lens as well as virtually everything Sigma, Tamron and Tokina make, which keeps prices a bit lower when the inevitable lens upgrades come along.

A Nikon D40, Nikon D40X or Canon 400D would probably serve you better (or a Nikon D50 or Canon 350D if you can still find them, would be cheaper still)
