diff movement-circlip in place-driveshaft.....queries??

hey all,

first things first, just fitted circlip but im wondering if the diff and the inserterted bit for the driveshaft should move at the same in a turn?

i havent put shaft back in(just away to get the tools out for it)but from the car jacked up and circlip in place the shaft section seems to turn whilst the face of the casing bit is moving slower than the shaft would be,

im thinking these should either be moving the same together or the casing not moving atall,or should there be a delay/bit of play between the movements?

i have just replaced the circlip and not welded it yet as my 3 local garages have all told me that they wouldnt weld it in basically cos it will f*ck my box recieving heat and that the clip just splits the weld,

what all does the weld do?is it the weld which keeps the shaft and the diff "locked"?

any help greatly appriecated thanks,

firstly. Your car. If it is an Si then it's either a 1.4 16v or a 1.6 8v. Rsi are 1.6 16v ;)

The circlip as I understand it, holds the diff in. The welding of the circlip is supposed to stop the circlip falling out (as this is the main cause of these gearboxes failing).
If people talk about a "welded diff" then they are talking about a rear wheel drive car where the differential is welded in such a way that the rear axle becomes one (both rear wheels do the same speed all the time). this is for drifting, and is really really good fun :D

As for the turning thing. Have you got the other side of the car jacked up? Are you spinning the other wheel slightly? If so then the diff is responsible for the slower turning and it's nothing to worry about. In fact thinking about it. The diff could also turn over slower than the axle if the other wheel was on the floor.

Circlip welding is a little ropey. It's a lot of heat and iirc the spring steel (circlip) just becomes brittle and the penetration of the weld is really really bad.

right cheers for the information about the drivers wheel being on the ground which will cause the slower turn,
yea for a few months ive been trying to get some1 to weld in my circlip but today ive chosen to put it into place and going t put in shaft tomorow as havent got my socket set back today,
there doesnt seem to be anything chamfered/damaged which would stop the clip fitting snug so just the whole different turnings is my main concern and also wondering now what is it that makes them pop out?

and whats my car?rsi 1.6 16v?
ive had a 1.6 8v si last year and now i have a 1.6 16v si, rsi?

thanks,

and yea i know what a welded diff is on rw cars my questions are about the passengers side shaft where it meets the gearbox,
