custom exhaust

  R53 Cooper S
hi,

just been quoted £420 all in for a full straight thru (de-cat) custom exhaust (stainless steel) for my 182.Will be similar to standard using two back boxes as they reckon it will be too loud with just the one, and will have slightly larger tailpipes.

Is this a good price? and what are the advantages/disadvantages of custom vs. off the shelf systems?

thanx

I wouldnt mate unless your after looks and sound instead of performance gains.

The likes of powerflow and other custom made crap just make the system out of lengths of stainless and different back boxes to get the desired look/ noise. The likes of Scorpion and other good exhaust companys test there exhausts.

Ive seen Scorpion test theres, they have a flow bench where they have a system made up on the bench. They can move the silencers up and down the length of the system and monitor the differences in torque and bhp gains. I had a powerflow exhaust on my old fiesta and trust me i never saw the monkeys doing any of this whilst throwing it together.

At the end of the day its up to you, but in my opinion the whole point of getting an exhaust system is for bhp gains not looks.
