Confusing Dilema - Headunit draining battery/random power

I was having a look at a headunit for a customer at work today, he had an Alpine IDA X100 in a Citreon C2 and it was draining his battery when not using it.

I wipped it out and had a look, and someone had bridged the yellow and red wires together, so the headunit stayed on without the ignition on. So I separated them apart and thought I'd sorted the power drain issue. When the ignition was off the headunit turned off, and wouldn't turn on again until the igntion was on. So I thought all was good and it would stop draining the battery when the car wasn't in use.

However 5 minutes later the customer came back holding the key saying his radio was on, and sure enough it was. Yet I have no idea how the headunit was getting power, when the ignition was off, and previously had proved it didn't work now I'd unwired it unless the ignition was on?
I tried again with the key on and off, and the headunit wouldn't turn on the with the ignition off.

I then tried switching the red and yellow wires, but this had no effect, other than the headunit kept resetting all the settings every time the key was removed.

I just don't have any idea why, or even how the headunit was turning on by itself when the ignition was off, so obviously its probably still draining the battery?
