im not getting smoke and the oil seems fine and there are no leaks in the cooling system that i can see.

i do have a crack in the top of the header tank but i dont think water comes out of it as its minute.

you will loose water from any crack! no matter how small! does the engine still run fine? still as powerful as it was b4? fill the bottle back up and run the engien for 5 mins making sure the water doesnt run out, and check to see if u get "steam" from the exhaust.

its hard to tell but the fumes dont smell bad.

the coolant has gone down slowly which is why im not sure if its that crack, this is actually a new tank and the old one split in the same place, its a common thing were they mould them. ill keep an eye on it but just wanting to know how much effort it will be if it is the HG

nasty!

anyone else done this didnt think it was a 7 hour job, got told it would be about 4-5 hours ?

Not a 7 hour job to be honest, can be done in half that easily without rushing. Take your time, make sure everything goes back in the same place.

I'd get the crack in your header tank sorted first
