Changing alternator

  Nimbus Clio 197
My alternator packed up on saturday and I have one on the way. I'm wondering if its a rather technical job I should leave to a professional or if an idiot (me!) could do it. I know you need to take the bumper and slam panel off, and I guess a belt. I'm reluctant to try to be honest, as I don't want to ruin my car

Help/advice appreciate :)

I had mine replaced this last year as it burnt it self out ! And my garage said its a pain in the ass as u said with all the extra work. So imo and I'm not mechanically minded I say leave it to Some1 who know what they are doing bro! :p

That was only done 5 months ago, still needs to be done again? I'm thinking get a professional to do it, i'm gonna stick to track rods and shock absorbers etc!

Everytime the aux belt is removed it needs to be changed. If the tensioner is siezed (it can happen even in 5months if the liner isn't in place) then that also needs replacing.

You can do it without if you want but if the aux run fails it will take your camshaft timing with it so make a decision.

See what your tensioner is like (i know some places just soak them in WD40 and whack a new belt on to save money when doing belt changes but thats a dangerous game IMO) but bare minimum is a new aux belt.
