My friend is a Manager at Renault and apparently all cambelts are a scam just for 'specialists' to make money. They dont ever need changing if you keep them lubed up.

I cant see the urgency then TBH mate, Aux belt not due for nearly a year and cambelt not due for nearly 3.

A year early on the cambelt would be prudent, but more than that is just wasteful really IMHO.

Yeah that's true chip. Im just a bit paranoid and like to have things done myself. Don't trust previous owners even with proof of it being done! Aux belt is noisy on a cold start up on cold mornings. Lasts around 30 seconds then goes away.

Ah, yeah I can understand then if its not something you know for certain was done and with all the correct parts etc.

Noisey Aux belt is normally the tensioner seizing, so definately get that looked at.

Thanks chip, helpful as always. I'll just get the lot done then I'll be happy.

We as businesses charge the parts out at retail. Not only that but the parts you've listed isn't everything.

With my £610 fitted, you get:
Cambelt kit (£150 retail)
Dephaser (£176 retail)
Aux kit (£65 retail)
Camshaft seal kit (£24 retail)
Crank bolt (£12 retail)
Elf evolution SXR Oil (£46 retail)
Oil filter (£7.94 retail)

That's £480.94 in parts. Now my normal hourly rate is £45/hour. The job is 7 hours book time, that takes the total to £795. Still think we over charge?

I never said any 1 was over charging just wandered how it was charged. I understand that it has to be done right and it doesn't matter what buisness u are in there is always profit just the way of the world. For a job like this though I agree it has to be done correctly and someone who is reputable. I'm in the north east and I hear that AndyDtm is the man I need to see? I think this is a touchy subject tho and guess it proves that in every buisness in cut throat probably because we r still in a recession. We all have mouths to feed and all have mortgages to pay but I don't want to hear sob stories just because a pertential customer want a good price! Every where u go now people bar ta for there money its sad really but seems to be the way of the world.
