Buying from an auction

  www.renparts.co.uk
I intend in purchasing a mk2 ph2 from an auction. Im going to look at brighouse car auctions soon. Im going to have about £4k to spend.. am i likely to get a decent example of a 1.2 with AC? say a 52 plate of something? what do i need to look out for as well.. anything i can easily check? Looking for a dynamique spec only. Am i best going on Reg vardy sales days? they seem to have a lot of reanult delalerships.... or are there any other auctions closeby? just looking for advice on purchasing from an auction and what am i looking at been able to get in a dynamique for 4k?
thanks
josh

i work in the motor trade mate, and i wouldn't even consider it!
the only reason a 52/53 plate clio 1.2 dynamique is going to be at an auction is because there is something wrong with it! there'll be plenty of expressions and poverty authentiques, but dynamiques are sought after, so dealers hang on to them and don't send them to auction.

The chance of getting a 1.2 16v with A/C will be limited. I reckon you might get a 52plate out the trader for around the 4k mark. If you want aircon you will have consider a 1.4 16v dynamique as they come as standard and only fetch a couple hundred quid more than the same 1.2 16v.

As above a good 1.2 16v is easy to sell for a renault dealer. low ins etc.....

I would like a 1.4 what ins group are they? The auction is a decent one.. its the same one my dad bought a 03 Merc S class from... £35k... really good saving. you see what i mean..Im just thinking will i get any real savings from an auction or not?

not really, for the sake of a couple of hundred notes, i'd rather buy off a private, where the cars aren't messed about with, and you can see where its been kept and whose been driving it.

I think there grp4. Usually about 10% more expensive to insure.

1.4 are group 6 or so but you need to do a quote first realy as it might not be as big a jumpo as you think.
One of the things about auctions is you may find ex rental or hire cars and I wouldn't ever buy one of them.
A/C was a rarely taken option on thw 1.2's so you might have trouble findone one with it personally for the extra cost of buying and maintaing I wouldn't get it.
I'd go private personally ever time though.
