bonnet catch RELEASER issue

  2001 Clio 1.2 Dynamique
I stopped off at a garage yesterday to buy some oil and top mine up, it seems to be burnin alot, it is on 85K...anyway, when i went to close the bonnet after, the damn thing wouldnt shut, the safety lever thing wasnt stuck in the wrong position (the usual problem) but the release unit tucked in just at the top of the grill was rusted into the open position and it took me AGES to flick it back into the lock position so it would take when i closed the bonnet.

I havent had my catch inspected yet by renault........which is incidentally rusted to s**t anyway, should i try and tell them they have to replace the release unit aswell, as its rusting open and not safe, just blag it?? if that dont work how should i fix it?

As Mark said they inspect both the latch and the lock, the bit on the bonnet and the bit on the slam panel. They'll replace (should) it under warranty if its rusted badly, let them know anyway.

If they don't replace it/your not happy if they don't, give RUK a call.

Mine did the exact same thing yesterday. WD40 seemed to sort it for now. Will get it looked at during the next service.

My bonnet flew up on me last week, too... renault seemed a bit cagey when I took it in after I'd had a replacement bonet, windscreen and a big dent taken out of my roof... how can they not take some responsibility?!
