Bloody Renault exhausts!

  BMW E46 330i Touring
There I was, 70 miles from home, trundling to an interview in plenty of time, when my car becomes very, very 'boomy'. I think nothing of it, after all, I've been doing motorway miles and the exhaust always sounds louder once I'm back to low revs...

Until I hear that fateful sound of exhaust scrapage! The centre section has sheared itself in half and my lovely twin pipes that I love so much are being dragged on the floor.

So, half an hour wait for AA man and he disconnects the back half, chucks it in my boot and off I go to my interview, dead on time.

After about 1hr 30mins drive home, and with a banging headache, I get to Kwit Fit (closest place to me and they're not half bad). £156 fitted for a new centre section (Cat-back) and backbox mount... :(

There goes my wheel re-furb for a few weeks...

And can nobody mention that I should have bought an aftermarket replacement!

I know... to be fair it's done me / the car 6 years now so it aint too bad, but it's strange how it has sheared off just back from the cat, where it curves 'upwards' before continuing back. I wonder if this is a constant weak point due to the upward curve...

They always fail there its a common problem with the 172's.

Thought so... should have probably taken this opportunity to get a Prospeed, etc custom centre section made up, but I was so sick of driving for an hour and a half sounding THAT loud that I just wanted it sorted. Will be done tomorrow which isn't too bad a turnaround, and if lasts another 5 years then at least it won't be my car anymore by then!

Might even find that a new, shiny centre section frees up some horses... maybe.
