Battery ??? 182

only holding at 7.3 so think the alternator isnt working properly ?? car seems ruff on idle as if its gonna stall but hasnt yet, also getting a bit jumpy when starting up

anyone know how much a new one fitted would cost and is this the actual problem !!

So its 7.3 volts when the engine is running?

Seen quite a few with the main +ve cable broken on the back of the alternator

I'd look at that too. Seen it several times

yea on start up goes from 14v down to 7.3
wouldnt know where to start looking thou lads where is the alternator

Drivers side top of the engine near the radiator.


Does it stay at 7.3 with engine running? It wil drop when starting but come back up if alternator is ok

ahhhh ill check in the morning, thanks , should i rev it a bit to see if it goes up ?? thought they sit around 12v's all the time thou, feels like the cars gonna cut out when im on the motoway crawling .

12.6 volts when engine off and battery resting (fully charged)

13.5 - 14.5 volts at 2,000rpm (charge rate)

car didnt start this morning battery reading 12.2 got it going after leaving for 15 mins and now its 14.4

you reckon the spark plugs could be on the way out never had them changed ??
