Aircon Questions

I have a few questions about the mk2 aircon system :quiet:

I know how aircon works etc...


but I'm not sure how it mixes with the conventional heater matrix?

It's my understanding that you can have the aircon switched on and have hot and cold air? (dehumidified)

how does this work? is there a mixture of the 'aircon matrix' and heater matrix mixed in to the blowers?

or does the expansion valve operate differently to change the pressure/temperature, thus getting warm air?

or am I miles off? :D

The heater matrix and the aircon evapourator are two seperate things, the heater matrix is in the inside of the car and the aircon evap is just after the fan under the scuttle panel.

How I imagine it works is it just cools and drys the incoming air and then its passed through the heater which will heat the air if you've got it set to it for just pass it into the cabin chilled and dryed.

The circled bit is where the aircon evap is, you can see the refridgerent lines running to it at the bottom.
