Air Con

  Black Ph2 172
Just been to get my air con 'regassed' at Kwik Fit and have been told I have a leak and need a new pipe :-(. Anybody bought one of these before or had a similar problem?

Yes. Which pipe do you need as there are several parts to the system? A common break is in the pipe that runs past the alternator. If the alternation holding bolt comes out or breaks the alternator can come foward fracturing the pipe.

The replacement part was £106 direct from Renault and I would imagine all of the other parts would be around the same sort of money from them.

PM me if you need any help.

You should never need your air con re-gassed if there isn't a leak, this is common thinking.

Air con pipes are a b**ch to fit mate. Worth paying the garage for imo.

Thanks for your responses.

Kwik Fit gave were not able to tell me where the leak was coming from, they said I would need to take it to a specialist. Why do cars cost so much money lol?!!

Sort of true. However if air-con isn't used often then the rubber seals in the system can dry out, due to the oil in the system not being circulated which in turn lets the gas escape and then the system will need to be regassed.

Although the gas 'leaks' out in this way it is not a real leak as the seals should be re-lubricated after a regas.

To the OP Where abouts in Hampshire are you as it might be worth taking the car to Rentech in Portsmouth.
