172 idle / misfire just happened, peace of mind?

Hey folks....

The above just happened fortunately I was driving past my mechanics garage so rolled it in to see him, he removed the cover and started unplugging the HT leads one by one, he concluded that one of them is possibly faulty since the car revs dropped when he removed some of the leads but it didn't do it for one of them (number 1) he still as the vehicle and says it could just be a plug or lead issue but also a engine problem?

I've since searched and found coil packs are known and sometime injectors, i'm just worried it could be worse?

Its impossible to say really without seeing the vehicle. It could be a coilpack, water in a plug well, a faulty lead, even a duff sensor or wiring fault somewhere but in truth you're gonna be better off letting your mechanic do his job and come back with a diagnosis... its only a car at the end of the day and they all go wrong at some point.

Fair one on letting him do his job, I really rate him and he's always been fair.

Anyway he got back in touch and claimed the fault was with lead (ht) arcing out out, number 1 or something. He ordered me the new ht lead set from Renault, so hopefully be all good when I get the motor back tomorrow, is it a hard job to change the leads? I wasn't sure if you needed to remove anything to access them.

10 minute job at most, simple job to do. You will need a 10mm socket on a rachet to remove the upper inlet plenum though. The only thing that can catch some people out is the firing order of the coil pack.
