172 Fuel Guage

Has anyone had any problems or discrepancies with their 172 Petrol Guage?

I have had my Clio for about 1yr and half, recently i got in it to find that my petrol light was on however the guage was pointing just above the first notch from the orange line. I went to the petrol garage and put £30 in it which filled it and the guage moved to the very top (which is correct) so i dont think its totally screwed!, has anyone had any similar experiences or advise me as to why this happens??!

Much appreciated.

The gauge isnt accurate at all. hen its on its last notc it still has about 30% full of fuel its just the way it is.

agree it seems to be possible to get 60-90 miles out the last notch - i hate the fuel gauge and the crappy computer which chucks it at 40 miles left and is completely sh*tey inaccurate pisch

Its is very accurate to fuel computer if you give it say 200 miles to settle down and dont reset it ever few miles.

Discrepancies with my 172 Petrol Guage?

Tell me about it - it keeps going down, and I have to spend stupid amounts of £££££ to get it back up to where it was...

Its a vicious circle I tell you.

disagree mate, i dont like it or rely on it, i only reset mine after i fill up again and it works out the rest of your tank on what mpg you have already covered and is pretty inaccurate i usually get 300-320 from a tank and one time it said i had 78 miles left when i had covered 290 i was like bullsiht not a huge fan and the novelty wore off after a few days of owning the car when i found out how pants it is.

It is very accurate to about minus half a percent I added up how much fuel my car said it burned over 35k and how much I stuck in and they were within as I said 0.5%.

So what miles do you average from a 172? Cause reading the comments from you guys i have been filling my tank up as soon as the red light comes on with only about 200miles on the clock???

How many miles should i be expecting from a full tank which is £35 i believe?

Cheers.

I ignore the petrol gauge and just look for a garage once the light comes on. Ive found the trip computer to be pretty accurate althought the mpg figures are often a little generous.

I drove about 30 miles with the fuel light on and managed to put 48.1 litres of optimax in which came to over £40. She must have been running on fumes!!

So how many miles do the 172 owners get on avg on a full tank? Im just

paranoid that theres something wrong with my car!

I average about 280-300 miles per tank (hence why I think the mpg reading of the trip computer is a bit optimistic). Best Ive ever had is 400 mile, that was on a trip to whitley bay including a bit of town driving. Trip said 43 mpg, which is nice!!
