172 FF Gearbox replacement, can i use any 1*2 box? speed sensor/abs confusion..

My ph2 172 full fat needs a gearbox, from what i udnerstand after my car will have a speed sensor on the back of the gearbox same as a 182, but the ph1 and cup gear box's take the reading from the abs, so does this mean only a FF 172 box and 182 box will be direct replacement?

Can i not swap the FF sensor into a cup box?

last thing i want to do is change the box then find that i cant run a speedo!

Ph1 and Cup have the speedo drive in the back of the gearbox...the majority (not all) of the others use the ABS system.

Take a look down the back of your engine and you will clearly see if its got a speed sensor going into the top of the diff or not..

If its not got one and its using the ABS system for its speed, any 172/182 box will fit...
