172 Cup drivers window issue

Another day, another you know what….

Put the windows down tonight to to clear a bit of the rain from them and the drivers side sounded a bit rough, almost as if something was caught between the glass and the trim and was being mashed as it went up. I closed it fully and then as it was being lowered it suddenly stopped and I could hear a relay noise clicking on and off from around the glove box area. I tried to get it back up but it moved very slowly and stopped about 6 inches off the top, not good when it’s raining! I kept trying it to move up and down and eventually I got it up. Phew! I tried to lower it again a little when I got back and I took it down about 3 inches and then closed again. This time it sounded fine but although it was tempting to try it fully down I just knew I’d regret doing it.

Any ideas as to what it could be? The switch is fine and there is no obstruction between the glass and trim. Could the UCH be an issue? (I think I have a problem with it regarding some sounds for lights left on wtc as I’ve posted before but considering the actual window sounded rough this could be a red herring) Has something broken or come loose in the door itself? Any help welcome.

I had something very similar a couple of months ago. It sounded like a metallic scraping noise. One of the brackets that bolts the regulator to the door had snapped off. There are 2 of them, one at the top and one at the bottom. You'll have to take the door card off and see if the regulator is loose.

How easy was that? I have no time to sort this until the end of next week, so I’ll be putting a sticker on the dash to remind me not to open it!

Why do I hear clicking from behind the glove box when I press the button for the drivers window when it’s fully up but I don’t hear any clicking when I do the same with the passenger window?

It's easy, just a couple of bolts holding in the regulator.
I found it easier if the window is halfway down so you can get your hand on the white clip that pushes through the hole in the bottom of the window.

They do this. I had a 172 before this 182 and they both did it. It only clicks under the glove box for the drivers side window, not the passenger side.
Don't ask me why lol.
