172 conversion



  Petrol Blue 182.
right next year im hopeuflly droping a 172 engine into the car and i need you to tell me what i need, obv need the engine, gearbox, ecu, loom. thats all i can think of off the top of my head obv brakes aswell, i dont wnat "by a sport" because half of the fun wil be fiting it. would i need a 172 gear box or would like a 1.8 gearbox do i know id get shorter gear ratios. thanks

the only 1.8 clio is a MK1 valver box, which would fit iirc, but I'm not sure if the mounts will bolt straight on.
Best to leave the valver box alone actually, pretty weak.
Ph1 172 boxes have a longer 5th and little longer 4th. Ph2 boxes are the short 172 boxes.

Your best bet is a Ph1 172 engine. (F4R 730)

Try to get everything from one donor car - Engine, box, loom, UCH, ECU, decoder, keys etc etc... it makes life a lot easier.

You're better off trawling eBay/AT for a cheap accident-damaged Ph1 and swap everything over.

You can use Ph1 'boxes on the Ph2 and the other way around. The 172 Cup box uses a cable speedo though, due to the lack of ABS sensors that all the others use.
