1.4 engine bore

  1.6 16v clio priv
Has anyone ever bored out a 1992 1.4 rt. Decided to have a play with my drive ridden old car and see what life i can breathe into it given time to play. Question is can it be bored out and how much.

There no po9int a 182 transpant will give more power for a lot less cost.
head work and cams are a better firstly.

yes already thinking of that . But what about a bore too. I heard once that it can go to a 1.8 that true?

Like i said wanna do this to play so whatever will make the car give a better buzz when i floor the throttle.

was thinking of putting it on the track if i get good results

There more important things that outright power on the track my cars got about 180hp and is faster than a Skyline on track.
You maybe able to bore it out to 1.8 but the costs stupid £1k for a proper boreout then £400 for pistons the headwork and cams have to be done to be worth anything on the overboring so thats £1k extra. The you have to build it up.
You can pick up a valver with a 1.8 for under £1k at times there no point spending on tuning unless you want to be unique and you'll loose the reliability particualy on track.

I do want to be unique but thats not the main point. When i say I wanna play I mean I have a workshop to hand and I wanna see if I can do the job myself. At the min the car needs some new life so its not worth anything, if I naff it up it dont matter. So basically the whole point of doing the job myself goes out the window if I buy a 1.8 engine

You ain't going to get a 182 engine into a mark 1 with any amount of easiness!

You also can't bore the 1.4 out as you'll hit the waterjackets. As some of you know, the 1.6 8v K7M BE is basically the same as the 1.4 RT BE but the increase in capacity comes froma change in stroke, not bore so think about that.

Easiest way for more power is to stick a 1.8 16v in or just replace the knakced 1.4 with a secondhand effort...you'll get one for under 50quid thesedays. Whatever the engine, its pointless even thinking of boring out/restroking as the cost of a genuine larger capacity part is soooo cheap thesedays.
