1.2 16v to 1.6 16v

  LY 182
what exactly would be needed for this conversion?
where would i stand with the
1. gearbox- can i use the 1.2 box or will i need the 1.6
2. mounts- obv i will need the 1.6 o/s mount but other side depends on box?
3. management- will i need the 1.6 set up or can i run it on the 1.2 ecu?
subframe etc all the same i take it.
any other bits and peices i should know?
just interested as i know of one going cheap so thinking of lobbing the 1.6 in as opposed to doing a clutch and cambelt on mine

thanks

and also, if i have to use the 1.6 management what sort of job is it getting that little lot singing and dancing with the electric steering?

Realy you need the whole engine and loom plus realy should use the gaerbox since its stronger sgafts don't matter might can use the old ones.
As for interier loom well err you might need the 1.6 one depends the spec 1.6 you have etc plus regardless you realy need the uch and ecu and keys form the doner cars there are ways round it but for simplicity I'll just say that so realy you might need the whole internal dash could fit air con when your at itat least just ned to wire in a temp fan into the car as cars with ac have one on the inside the car (the one which fail and whine)

Get new mount regardless IMO done the dogbone is the same and so is the normal gearbox one but the top driver side different AFAIK. Not expensive to replace them all anyway and good practice.

Also chnage the cambelt and clutch on them before stick them in.

1.2 managment could be made to work just like the above wiring cna be worked around a few different ways the popualr way the above.

The 172 is just as much efofrt to fit so go the whole hog or not at all IMO. Even then its not cheap can get a proper 172 for the money of a conversion.

subframe is the same..

shocks n springs are different.

gearbox is different, you could use a 1.2 box but no speedo drive. (you need one from a 1.6 16v or DCI) JB3 is the code..

as well as using the 1.6 ECU and loom.

Not sure on the mounts, get one to match the gearbox and you'll be sound.

god knows about the steering..

I would go for it.. as well as doing the clutch and cambelt on the k4m before it goes in too!

hmm. i agree with the fact that the 172 conversion isn't worth it, but the 1.6 in question we have serviced the last 2 years and its only being scrapped for accident damage- did i mention the engines from a megane?
the engine in questions already had its cambelt and waterpump..
think i might look in to seeing if i can make the 1.2 management work as then i wouldnt need to mess around with keys etc.
coil setup is different i know that so i would probably need to make some leads up? i know crank sensors are the same and guessing all the other sensors are.
i reckon i could make it work in a lazyboy kind of way.
so engine gearbox and o/s mount to make it work then any little niggly bits i may or may not come across?

Yep you can get the 1.2 ECU mapped best talk to a specilaist though ps running vvt might be difficult so preferably use a none vvt engine. The coils etc all need to be wired to the ecu basically convince the 1.2 ECU its just a 1.2 engine get the teeth from the crack sensor chnaged on the ecu if you can.

Idealy might need the 1.6 rad for the extra cooling.

If your not touching the loms much as such stearing abs etc are all fine they all work together a such only if you fiddle the looms is it a problem you cna use the abs and pas stand alone as such.

O and idealy bin the air con pump and pas pump if the megan has it (else the ac pump is a drain on power and more bits= more potential problems and the pas pump needs to be removed else it start a little fire when its not supplied with fluid as such.

Only other thing is the throttle pedal ensure you using the right type if your using a FBW and the man is FBY no problems.
