Nest is wireless, however you can use the existing controller wiring if you want. Replaced my old controller last month and use it wirelessly, looks amazing and works perfectly. Did look at Hive, but didn't like the design as much, but from memory it had pretty much the same features.

Keydogg, If I telnet to the .co.uk site I get in fine. Whats strange is you can't get to it from either pc. What happens if you try port 25?

Have you tried swapping over the account details on the PC's? 1and1 authenticate the SMTP so could be an issue with the account. Other way is to test the SMTP with telnet ...
