    clio 182 wont start

As above. Sounds like a clapped out battery, bad main earths (battery to gearbox/ battery to chassis) or main +ve connections to alternator, starter motor or fuse box. Basically check your battery and alternator for charge. Then check both ends and sheathing of every main cable from the battery.

    Engine troubles from a 172

Sounds like dephaser. It should be obvious when you get the belts off (admittedly not a quick/ cheap diagnosis).

Badly misfiring F4R - Sounds like a scoob

To remove the lambda sensor: give it a good wipe over, spray the nut with WD40 and go for a drive. Round the block will be enough. Give it another squirt of WD40 and let the exhaust cool enough that you can comfortably grab it with your hand. Then try and remove it (if you don't let it cool you...

Badly misfiring F4R - Sounds like a scoob

Have you tried disconnecting and replacing each HT lead in turn at the coil pack whilst the engine is at idle? It should start running like a pig when you remove the spark to a cylinder. If there's no change or a noticeably different noise on one cylinder compared to the others you should be in...

    weird noise on idle 172

Also check main earth cables. Battery to chassis and Battery to gearbox. These can sometimes make an engine idle poorly if they're on their way out. You'll need to look closely at the ends and feel all along the sheathing. Please update with your findings as I've a similar problem with my...

    weird noise on idle 172

Did you disconnect the battery before you restarted the engine? If not this might explain the 4000rpm idle speed. I had a similar problem when changing an ICV on another car and all was fixed after leaving the battery off for a few minutes. You'll hear the ICV cycling when you reconnect the battery.

    Exhaust Blow

    Yes, it definately will.

    Scrapping old alloy

I've heard about £10 so previous poster is probably right. Just take it to any car dismantlers or scrap metal merchants. They'll weigh it and then make you an offer.

    Rear wheel bearing sealing ring.

Does anyone know the part number for the small disc that goes behind the rear wheel bearing on the 172? It's the part that the lipseal bears against. I'm in the process of changing the rear discs and i've noticed that this part has an uneven groove in it. If i put it back on it's just going...

    Clutch cable replacement guide?

Anyone? What's involved in removing the bulkhead soundproofing and how much needs to come off? Is this the hardest bit?

    running lumpy at idle! Help!!

I agree but I would also add that it's not unusual for injectors to get crud between the pintle and the seat. In other words, the injector 'leaks' as it can't shut off even though the ECU and injector solenoid are working correctly. This was a possible symptom I suspected and referred to above...

    running lumpy at idle! Help!!

Fixed now It was two very light exhaust leaks; one at the cat to centre section joint and one at the centre section to subframe sleeve. These were the tiniest of leaks and if you're not experienced at finding them you could easily miss them. Also, the standard renault sleeve that joins the...

    Clutch cable replacement guide?

Hi I've searched the forum and I can't find anything relating to this. Can anyone give some links, tips or step by step instructions? The last clutch cable I did was a Peugeot 106 with power steering. I did it but it took longer than replacing the actual clutch. Is the Clio 172 likely to...

    cambelt guide 182

Slightly off topic but it's niggling me now and i'm fed up of googling for an answer. What's the purpose of making the pullies fully floating? Further more, how do they transmit drive if they are free to turn relative to the shaft? Any links or explanations appreciated.

    running lumpy at idle! Help!!

Would love to know if this fixes it. I have a similar problem with mine. I think it may be an exhaust leak or a sticking injector. Exhaust makes a noise similar to a minor leak at low revs. Injectors are noisy and when they are gummed up they tend to stick open and make the fuelling erratic.

    Vacuum pipes at plenum

Thanks for the replies. I'll isolate this tomorrow to see if it makes a difference to the idle. The brakes seem fine BTW and i reckon that the pipe must be something like 70 - 80% flattened.

    Vacuum pipes at plenum

I wondered if it was a connection for a remote MAP sensor. I know that on some cars the MAP sensor is actually in the ECU. Can anyone confirm this?

    Vacuum pipes at plenum

Hi, Can anyone tell me the purpose of the two vacuum pipes that connect to the plenum immediately after the throttle body. I believe the pipe at the front is for the accoustic valve but I can't identify the one at the back, it seems to disappear behind the bulkhead sound insulation. I'm...

    Newbie saying hello

I've had my 172 ph2 about a week now and already I seem to have spent an ulhealthy amount of time on here searching through pages for fixes for it's many niggles (of which there are plenty). A brilliant forum. I've not posted before today but I've just upgraded my membership so I thought I'd...
