    The PH1 172 Appreciation Thread.

Any pics of how you've mounted the jig to the rear of the car? Or even could you tell me? I've just bought steel to make a roll-over but haven't yet decided how the rear was going to be fixed. Front I was going to use the front forward sub-frame mounts. Your method certainly is easier for the...

    Northern Ireland Meet?

I'm up for a get together guys. Not running the Clio at the moment as its now a project for which I should really get a thread up for, but however, I'm still game as long as you all dont mind a non Renault tagging on the back for a while. Zeitgeist0190, why dont you remove the rear seats and...

    1998 1.2 8v Clio - Snapped cambelt - What parts?!

Get a head gasket kit. Should come with a rocker cover and head gasket, oval intake rubbers, metal exhaust gasket, cam seal and valve stem oil seals which look like mushrooms. a complete kit would cost lots from Renault but about £46 from the likes of Eurocar parts. I got one from a local motor...

    Speedo all over the place

Can be speed sensor, plug going into speed sensor or wiring. In my case on the first occasion it was the sensor then on the second, the plug, and on the third, the wire running from the ECU to the dash had broken just below the battery before the engine bay fuse box. On mine the green wire...

Electrical / ICE Expert Needed - Advice Please!

Well the best way to choose wiring is to look at the current draw from the screen on the back label or in the instructions. Most stand alone screens I’ve come across don’t need much more than a couple of amps. So 16awg wire is good enough. 16awg has a max of about 3.5Amps 14awg has a max of...

Engine not getting up to temperature?

I would say the thermostat is stuck open and "leaking" coolant into the rad from cold. Being summer you probably wont have used the internal heater to have noticed any reduced performance but if this is the case then smart money is on the thermostat. Easy way to check is to start the car from...

Is my little clio OBD II compatible?

It will have OBD connection but it isn't OBD2 compliant as Fastchip says. The Ebay OBD reader will not work unless it has Renault specific software. You need something like the Autel FR704 which has French software (Renault, Citroen) Even then the information you can grab will be limited to...

    Replica Kit help

Will this be a problem, in a word, yes. I have taken bonded and smoothed side skirts off before and the only way is to cut them off and sand down the fibre glass and/or filler until you reach the original bodywork. Its means that you have to prep and paint the side of the car so isn't something...

Have dad this once before and it was down to me not tightening up the wheel nuts properly so assuming you have checked this as per your first post, then I'd agree with Danny.

    Diagnostic Results - 172 Cup :(

Sounds like they were actually trying to steal the car bud. You would take the passenger wheel off to gain access through the wheel arch to the battery wiring and ecu wiring. If you are so inclined there are ways to take the alarm inactive. You wouldn't get it started easily that way but you...

    Passenger door won't open

The handle is linked to the door mechanism by a metal rod held in place by plastic retainers. My guess is one of the clips has broken and the resultant play in the rod means the door only opens some of the time.

Another immob issue for everyone to help with

Not trying to make you worry but I left my car on a charger while I was away on holiday and came back to a burnt out ECU. No comms from the ECU when plugged in gave me the final nod to replace the ECU after a morning of checking absolutely everything. The immobiliser light was acting normally...

    Tailgate lock solenoid

I have one about somewhere. Took it off in 2003 and its never been used since. Was working fine when I took it off and been in my old bedroom at my parents house ever since. If it wasnt thrown out by them and I can find it its yours. May be a few days before i'm there to get a look mind.

    Split fuel line.

I don't recommend this but a friend of mine had a fuel leak from a pipe and as it was during a rally, he jumped into some random person’s garden, cut about 150mm off the end of their garden hose pipe and reattached the hose pipe to the sprinkler head. He then proceeded to cut the fuel pipe in...

Brand new 200 pulling to the left

I was in having my front tyres re-balanced this morning at a garage which is beside Renault and Peugeot main dealers and the guy there has been there for 10 years plus. He said he has seen new cars come in with tracking issues and they are generally harder to true up. What was the issue in the end?

LY200 late 2009 price and chassis?

Another Renaultsport find.... "The only parts that have been specifically designed for New Clio Cup are the struts, the shock absorbers, the springs and the bracket connecting the lower arm, the pivot and the pivot holder." So there you go.

LY200 late 2009 price and chassis?

Yeah, get you. I wasn't going to bother buying them, more wondering if that's the only difference. Springs, dampers, red paint and anthracite wheels. So offer £14500??

LY200 late 2009 price and chassis?

Hang on, so does changing the springs and dampers to "CUP" versions make it a CUP chassis? As in there are no changes to the metal chassis design? Not forgetting to paint the callipers with £5 worth of Halfords red calliper paint... It's in Northern Ireland bud so we don't do the 09 59...

LY200 late 2009 price and chassis?

Not really looking to track day it as a hobby just maybe once or twice to get the feel for the car and its limits. You're right by the way, I had the brain wave of looking up the Renaultsport website and.... Cup Chassis - 17" 5-spoke 'Renaultsport' wheels in anthracite - Ride height lowered by...

LY200 late 2009 price and chassis?

The Cup chassis is more of an I want one with the Cup chassis, and if it turns out not to have one then I’ve a bargaining tool! Was thinking at the time that the callipers did look painted (dodgy style) so maybe they thought the red was a bit too much. Should have looked at them closer. Wheels...

LY200 late 2009 price and chassis?

The first time I saw it around the town I was convinced it did have red callipers. Since then having looked at it and driven it I noticed it had silver callipers, which stood out to me because I remembered it having red ones. As for the wheels it has got the 17 inch 5 spoke renaultsport wheels.

LY200 late 2009 price and chassis?

I've seen a LY 200 with Recaro's and all the usual extras. Now I've been told it has a cup chassis and having been for a test drive its stiff but I've not driven a non cup chassis 200 so have no comparison. So the two questions are: 1: How much would you pay assuming it has the cup chassis and...

    flashing head unit?

3 Things. 1 Flashing on/off could be radio loosing power, so check for loose connections behind the radio, usually loose red or yellow wires. 2 If by flashing you mean going lighter then darker then look also for loose dash illumination wire (orange behind the radio.) 3 If 1 or 2 don't solve...

Re: my bros 172 with makor electrical problems Well if the battery is giving trouble again then by the fact that you have just replaced the battery i would look at the alternator being faulty.
